Developed knit samples.

I have started to develop my drawings and images by creating knitted samples.

In relation to my grid collage I created this sample, inspired by my moodboard. This piece is a very structured piece using e-wrap to add vertical blocks of colour and colour changes to create the horizontal colours. I think this is very strong and I will develop this by creating a more confusing sample adding more blocks and lines of colour to link with Phoung Thuy Nguyens work and my developed drawings.

In relation to my photo of the orange and purple wall I have created this piece using E-wrap to add the strong block of colour and lace holes to create the textured structure of the brick wall. I will then dye the other half of the piece to create the hard marbled purple tiles. This piece would be developed by doing it on a large scale repeating the pattern. This also links to my collages which I developed in my sketch book.

This piece is inspired by Phoung Thuy Nguyens work as this artists work relates to compositions and structure. I have developed this work by using a plain background and adding colour in a blocked pattern using the technique of e-wrap. I think this piece works as the colours match and the sturcture is slightly confusing which is a development from my previous work.

This sample relates to my collage where bursts of colour are coming into the side of the piece I have created this effect through partial knit and colour changes. I think the way the structure has been changed curving the piece, can also relate to my theme of perceptions.

This sample is developed from a smaller test sample when I was trying to mix e-wrap and ladders. I thought the effect created texture. I think this piece works well as a whole as the grey background compliments the bright vibrant colours.

For this piece I used the technique of partial knit, when knitting this area I changed from plain knit to punchcard knit so there is an individual pattern within the partial knit section. During my tutorial Laura mentioned this technique to me as a way to develop my knit further, using more complicated techniques.

In relation to the previous piece I created this piece which is the same technique however without the use of ladders running through the entire piece, and I have moved the partial knit to the middle. I think this sample workes better than the previous sample as I think the texture works better in the middle of the piece. Also the pattern of the punch card is shown better without the ladders.

In relation to Ptolomy Manns work in which the colours blend has inspired me to create this laddered sample. I think this sample works as my use of combining two yarn colours in one has created a dip dyed affect, this is something I am going to develop further by actually dip dying some of my samples to create a tonal blended piece.
