Locating: Initial Design ideas.

Initially I started to create samples focusing on the techniques looking into how I could create volume and depth within the piece.

For the domestic samples I used partial knitting  to create loops. I then looped these together. This technique will give me my desired depth, if I created the sample doing the loops row after row.

I used partial knit to create a square like pattern. The marled effect makes my work look more high street fashion rather than high end fashion. I will recreate this technique in one yarn bringing in bits of colour to lift it.

I noticed the samples created with lighter colours as my background yarn did not work well for menswear, becoming washed out. This led me to bring in small sections of darker colours and lighter bursts to lift the samples.

I tried out the travelling mock rib technique on the dubied machine. I used a plain cotton, this was very dull and I did not like the lace holes it created along the sides of the ribs. This led me to use different yarns.

I decided to then try  Lycra alongside soft cotton. This brought in the sample too much and the mock rib began to get lost.   I  am going to use wool which will felt slightly, when washed, This will reduce the lace holes, keeping the pattern  intact. To bring in colour I will use the technique, plaiting with mercerised cotton to add sheen, lifting the piece.

Next week I am going to develop my colour palette, bringing in navy and blue mohair as my colours are becoming too blended.
